The official poster for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival has been released.
Poster designers Hervé Chigioni and Gilles Frappier have used a photograph of actor Marcello Mastroianni from Federico Fellini’s 8 ½.
8 ½ was an official selection title at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival.
The poster, for the 67th festival, has been described as “celebrating a cinema that is free and open to the world, acknowledging once again the artistic importance of Italian and European cinema through one of its most stellar figures.”
Previous posters for the festival have included photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Faye Dunaway and Cary Grant & Ingrid Bergman in Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious.
Talking of the poster, Hervé Chigioni has said “[The way Mastroianni] looks at us above his black glasses draws us right in to a promise of global cinematographic happiness. The happiness of experiencing the Festival de Cannes together.”
The Cannes Film Festival will take place from 14th – 25th May 2014.
