Last year, open casting calls for Star Wars: Episode VII were held in 11 cities across UK, Ireland and USA, on the hunt for several different parts. There were over 37,000 applicants and over 30,000 hopefuls who submitted auditions online. Two young unknown actors have now been cast in unspecified roles from the open call, Disney announced Sunday.
Pip Anderson, a British parkour specialist who was recently seen in a Spider-man , has been cast along with an American actress, Crystal Clarke, currently studying in Glasgow, Scotland. It is unclear at this time how large these role are but it’s good to know that talent was found from the casting call. Mark Hamill was unknown before he was cast as lead role Luke Skywalker in Star Wars (1977), a facet that wasn’t lost on president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy:
“The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many traveled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film.”
Filming continues as we speak in Pinewood after moving from Abu Dhabi last May. The effects of Harrison Ford’s recent injury will be felt next month. Filming will have a brief two week hiatus while the actor recuperates. Ford suffered a severe leg injury and was soon rushed to hospital. Disney now states that he “is doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon.” The actor is on track to recovery, so luckily we won’t have to endure Han Solo having to sit down during every scene he is in.
Filming is still on track to wrap in the autumn. The release date has been unaffected and Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theatres December 18, 2015.
