Kristen Chenoweth Will Star In Disney’s ‘Descendants’ As Malificent

Kristen Chenoweth is following in Angelina Jolie‘s steps as she has been cast to star as Maleficent. Chenoweth started her acting career as a witch Glinda in the original stage production of Wicked, but this time she will be working with Disney on their latest original movie Descendants. The film will follow the teenage children of Disney’s iconic heroes and villains.

Set for a 2015 release on the Disney channel, it will be the latest Disney film that sees live action figures of some of their most iconic animated characters. Only a few reveals about the cast have been made, yet we can get a good view of the teenage cast including Booboo Stewart as Jay, son of Jafar; Sofia Carson as Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; Cameron Boyce as Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil; Mitchell Hope as Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast and Dove Cameron who will be daughter of Malificent played by Kristen Chenoweth. Chenoweth is the only casting announcement out of the favourite villains to be portrayed. None of our heroes have been given casting announcements yet either. These young stars will take on the role of students at the kingdoms best Prep school, also attended by other notable offspring, including the children of the Fairy Godmother, Mulan, and Rapunzel. But will they choose to study the path of good or evil?

Kenny Ortega has signed on to direct the film with Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott having written the original teleplay. Production is due to start this month. What do you think of Desendants?
