Following news it will open the Cannes Film Festival, The Weinstein Company and Warner Bros. have released a full trailer for biopic Grace of Monaco. The trailer shows Nicole Kidman’s Princess Grace torn between her role as monarch of the principality or returning to Hollywood to continue her career as an actress. While she maintains that she can be a mother, Princess and have a career she is advised against such a choice by her friends, family and husband.
The film has been plagued by controversies, most notably a dispute between Director Olivier Dahan and The Weinstein Company over cuts to scenes involving an argument between Prince Rainier and France’s then President, Charles De Gaulle. Tensions between the Prince and President can be seen in the trailer.
Despite its appearance at Cannes, the release date for Grace of Monaco has been under doubt for some time, with The Weinstein Company moving the date to 14th March 2014 before pulling it altogether. Now, however it has been announced that it will be released in France on 14 May 2014, the same day it premieres at Cannes. It will open in the UK on 6 June 2014.
The film also stars Tim Roth as Prince Rainier and Frank Langella as Father Francis Tucker, Princess Grace’s confidant.
