Michelle Forbes Joins Hunger Games ‘Mockingjay’ Cast

michelle-forbes_3548554The Hunger Games series just keeps rolling along, and though part 1 of Mockingjay, an adaptation of the third book in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy is due out November 21st, part 2 is still shooting – and now Michelle Forbes has joined the cast as Lieutenant Jackson.

This is a character that comes from District 13, the rebel sector fighting the Capitol, and Jackson would be one of the people part of the team that is headed to stop the Capitol and President Snow (Donald Sutherland).  Without giving too many spoilers, if memory serves from reading the books (and you can read a tibit here), Jackson would be a supporting character as a kind of tough-as-nails soldier leading the squad that brings Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) on her mission of revenge against Snow and the Capitol.

It’s ideal casting – Forbes made an impression on me first as the headstrong Admiral of the Pegasus ship on the great Battlestar Galactica reboot some years ago, and had a juicy role as a sexy villainess on True Blood (primarily she works in television, with roles all over the place from Lost to The Killing and this season’s Orphan Black).  And she can certainly hold her own with the likes of Lawrence.

Although the film is listed as being in ‘post-production’ on IMDb, the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman this February may have shifted scheduling a bit – albeit the film is still due for release November 20th, 2015, which would also mark the final performance for the late actor as Plutarch Eavensbee – which would explain why her scenes haven’t shot yet.  Or production on this two-part epic, which also will feature newcomer Julianne Moore, is talking a long time.
