Warner brothers and DC has officially thrown down the gauntlet in their own superhero franchise series as Disney and Marvel continue their phases and sequels and stand-alone movies, by announcing Zack Snyder as the director of the Justice League movie, according to Variety.
For a long time the Justice League film, combining all of the major DC superheroes – among the notables are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and sometimes Martian Manhunter, though many other heroes have come in and out over the years this is the main group – had a lot of rumored directors, including McG, Snyder himself, and Ben Affleck, who turned it down fairly early on (he, of course, will now be playing Batman).
But Warner/DC, following along on how they gave the keys to the Batman series to Christopher Nolan, will be sticking with one man with Snyder following Man of Steel and the upcoming sequel. Batman vs Superman will be the stepping stone – Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman, plus returning Henry Cavill as Superman, and it was just confirmed another DC character, Cyborg, will be in the film as played by actor Ray Stone - to the JL movie, and is due for release as the kick-off to the summer movie season in May of 2016.
Currently the script is in development, though one may assume writers on the current series – David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio, the latter added in during rewrites – may have a hand in the project (IMDb, which is hard to count as a fully reliable source until more is added or more is known, lists Goyer as the writer). There is no specific release date for day-month for the Justice League, but ideally Warner/DC would like the film out not too late after BvS comes out, so 2018 seems most realistic at present.
