Daniel Day-Lewis Awarded A Knighthood In The Queen’s Birthday Honours
Daniel Day-Lewis is to be a given a knighthood it has been announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The soon to be Sir Daniel Day-Lewis joins a host of other actors to be awarded in this latest honours list, and joins the likes of other great British actors including Sir Alec Guinness, Sir Ian McKellen and, more recently, Sir Kenneth Branagh.
On his upcoming knighthood, the three-time Oscar winner said; ‘I’m entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure.’
Angelina Jolie is to be awarded an honorary damehood for her work towards ending sexual violence across the world. Jolie joins the realm of other actresses with a damehood, including Dame Julie Andrews and Dame Helen Mirren.
On receiving her damehood, Angelina Jolie said ‘To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself.’
Dame Maggie Smith is to be a made a Companion of Honour, recognised for services of national importance. She is the 65th person to receive such an honour.
Damian Lewis, star of Homeland, is to be made an OBE, as is actress Phyllida Law, mother of Emma Thompson.
John Barrowman, star of Torchwood, is to be made an MBE.
The age span of recipients ranges from 19 to 99 years old, with 49% of the recipients being female.
