Child 44, the upcoming thriller starring Tom Hardy, has just been given a release date of 17th April 2015 in the USA.
The film follows Leo Demidov, a disgraced officer in Stalinist Russia, who uncovers a series of mysterious child murders, which appear to be connected to the government of the Soviet Union. Child 44 is the first book in a trilogy, written by author, Tom Rob Smith.
In addition to Tom Hardy as Leo Demidov, the film also stars Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace, Vincent Cassel, Jason Clarke and Paddy Considine. However, this is not the first time that Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman have worked together, having both previously appeared in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless. Jason Clarke has also starred in Lawless with both actors, playing the brother of Tom Hardy, so we’re sure the set was a great reunion for the actors.
Child 44 has been penned by Richard Price, who wrote the screenplay for the Martin Scorsese film The Color of Money, in addition to writing episodes of TV show The Wire.
When an adaptation of the novel was first announced in 2009, Ridley Scott was in talks to direct, but is now on board as a producer. The film will be directed by Swedish director Daniel Espinosa, who has previously directed 2012’s Safe House with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
With Greg Shapiro, Michael Schaefer and director Ridley Scott on board as producers, Child 44 will be distributed by Summit Entertainment.
Child 44 will be released on 17th April 2015 in the US. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
