At the end of the year in the film world it becomes a time to review the most successful movies of the year, and a strong indicator is the DVD sales chart for the year. The sales chart for 2013 has just been released, and Skyfall starring Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench has beaten the competition to the number one spot.
Skyfall was the best-selling DVD of the year, closely followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, then Les Miserables, Despicable Me 2, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Monsters University, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Django Unchained, Life of Pi, and Man of Steel.
The sales of physical DVDs fell in the UK by just over 11%. Digital sales are definitely making up a larger portion of sales than in previous years, however physical copies still prove to be most popular, selling more than 162.5 million copies alone this past year. There was also a 10% rise in the purchasing of Blu-Ray DVDs, with many consumers favouring the crystal-clear quality and definition they provide.
Only time will tell which DVD will become 2014’s biggest seller; until then, maybe grab yourself a copy of Skyfall. Surely if that many people bought it, its worth a watch, right?
