As the cinematic universe of Harry Potter extends further with the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series will also come to life in California, as theme park Universal Studios Hollywood have set their sights on 2016 for the grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Universal have confirmed a large-scale expansion both in and out of the park, including the construction of revolutionary attractions based around the novels and Warner Bros.‘ film series. Already confirmed is a replica of the series’ landmark, Hogwarts Castle, where Harry and his friends attended classes for 7 years of witchcraft and wizardry.
It is expected that Hollywood will follow the example of the previously-built ‘Wizarding World’ at Universal Orlando, which opened to guests in the summer of 2010 at Islands of Adventure. It is home to some of the most popular attractions in the state, including motion-simulator thrill ride Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey, as well as shops and restaurants situated within a recreation of the snow-capped village of Hogsmeade.
Sister-park Universal Studios Florida is currently undergoing its Phase Two of Harry Potter updates, with more rides and amenities themed around London and Diagon Alley, roller-coaster Harry Potter And The Escape From Gringotts and a Hogwarts Express train ride to take guests between the two parks. It is expected to open later this year.
