TRAILER: Seth Rogen & James Franco in ‘The Interview’

Hot on the heels of his blockbuster success Neighbors, Seth Rogen’s upcoming comedy The Interview finally hit the web yesterday in a big way, both a poster (above) and trailer (below).  Once again he’s teaming up with his collaborator Evan Golberg on directing, writing and producing duties, and This is The End and Pineapple Express star James Franco returns with Rogen as the leads in this, somewhat surprisingly for Rogen, a political comedy.

The premise likely sold itself to the studio soon as Rogen/Goldberg told it (this from Sony Pictures own synopsis on IMDB): “Dave Skylark (Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.”

Also starring Lizzy Kaplan (from the series Masters of Sex) and Randall Park as the North Korean dictator, this is still among my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year, and if the trailer is evidence it looks to be another wild comic spectacle from Rogen, who should likely score a success with this one as with Neighbors (that film, at least stateside, is one of the biggest films of the summer due to its low budget and big box office).
