It has been 20 years since Forrest Gump graced our cinema screens, with Tom Hanks playing the lead role of the naive but kind-hearted Forrest, in a story beginning at his childhood through to his adulthood.
Without him being aware, we see Forrest at pivotal points in US history and his influence in defining such moments.
To celebrate this 20th anniversary, Paramount is re-releasing Forrest Gump in IMAX cinemas.
Based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, this Robert Zemeckis directed film was originally released on 6th July 1994 in the US and was received with critical acclaim. On a budget of $55million, it grossed approximately $677million worldwide, and was the most successful film in the US in 1994, and the 31st most successful US film ever.
In addition, it was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning 6 including Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis and Best Picture.
The film co-stars Robin Wright as Forrest’s childhood friend, Jenny, and Sally Field as Forrest’s mother.
Re-releases are not unusual for many of the film studios, with Disney re-releasing The Lion King in 2011 and Beauty and the Beast in 2012, both in 3D. However, Disney cancelled a 3D re-release of The Little Mermaid in 2013.
With the IMAX release of Forrest Gump, audiences will now have the opportunity to hear many of the film’s most famous lines, including ‘Run, Forrest, Run!’ and ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get’ on the big screen.
Forrest Gump will be re-released in IMAX cinemas on 5th September 2014.
