That’s right, in case you missed it, last year’s summer zombie apocalypse blockbuster is getting a sequel – no surprise really when it managed to rake in a comfortable $504 million worldwide, marking it lead Brad Pitt‘s highest grossing film so far.
Pitt is confirmed to return in the lead role for the sequel, which is expected to continue to find it’s plot from Max Brooks’ novel “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War“. However no other casting or specific plot details have been released up to this point.
Nevertheless we can now confirm the names of the new director and screenwriter that have been enlisted by Paramount and Skydance to bring the film to screen and it’s safe to say we were not disappointed.
Not only do we have British screenwriter Steven Knight, who has previously been nominated for an Oscar for his work on the 2004 film Dirty Pretty Things, (for those of you haven’t seen this intriguing and gritty thriller, it is definitely worth a watch) but we also have the ever talented director Juan Antonio Bayona whose recent work on The Impossible rendered this writer an emotional wreck. Bayona, who has been onboard the project since December, is said to be working closely with Knight on the script.
As the project is still in it’s early stages, there is no confirmed release date thus far, meaning we may have to wait a little while before it hits our screens, but with this team behind it one can only hope it will be worth the wait.
