Disney‘s Frozen may not hit the big screens here in the UK till Friday but in America it is smashing records with an amazing opening weekend. Below is part of the press release detailing the films success.
Disney’s Frozen has broken records at the US Box office becoming the biggest Thanksgiving opening of all time and the largest opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Disney’s stunning animated comedy adventure achieved a spectacular $67.2 for the three-day weekend and $93.5 for the five-day weekend snowballing past the previous Thanksgiving debut record set by Toy Story 2 in 1999 ( $57.4M and $80.1M three-day/five-day records), and sledging ahead of Walt Disney Animation Studios previous biggest opener Tangled ($68.7 over 5 days). The Walt Disney Studios has now reached the $4 billion mark at the global box office for the first time in its history.
The Film tells the tale of Anna, a fearless optimist who teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his reindeer Sven, on her quest to find her sister Elsa who has condemned the kingdom of Arendelle to suffer an eternal winter. Will they be able to save the kingdom in time with all the Everest-like conditions they have to overcome, which include mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf.
Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen‘s classic fairy tale The Snow Queen the film was adapted for screen by Jennifer Lee and directed by Chris Buck. The film also has an impressive cast of voice actors with Kristen Bell taking on the lead of Anna, Jonathan Groff will be portraying Kristoff, Idina Menzel embraces the character of Elsa and Josh Gad will be playing the lovable Olaf.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has always had brilliant success and it seems Frozen is no exception. Having achieved the rare A+CinemaScore, Frozen joins the elite with only 9 previous animated titles receiving this high score, all of which where Disney/Pixar films. This shows how popular it has been with the fans and cinema goers but it seems the critics have also been extreamly impressed giving it brilliant reviews.
