Ron Howard will take over directing duties on Warner Bros live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book after original director Alejandro Gonzalez dropped out /Film reports. The news comes after Howard signed on to direct Mena earlier in the week. The film will be based on the story of pilot Barry Seal who smuggled drugs between America and Columbia.
It is unsure when the Oscar-winning Director will start work on The Jungle Book as The Guardian reports he is currently attached to a number of upcoming projects, including Inferno the latest instalment in Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code series.
The script for The Jungle Book has been written by Callie Kloves, whose father Steve Kloves wrote the Harry Potter scripts. He is also onboard and will produce the film. Howard’s Warner Bros adaptation isn’t the only one currently in production. Disney are also working on a film based on Kipling’s collection of stories about a young boy, Mowgli, who grows up in the Indian jungle. Disney’s first cartoon adaptation was a huge hit and they will no doubt be hoping the live adaptation will follow suit. Jon Favreau will direct Disney’s version which is set to be released on October 9, 2015.
As yet, there is no release date for Warner Bros film.
