Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill are set to reunite in an upcoming film about the bombing of the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. The film, title as yet unknown, will be based on the 1997 Vanity Fair article, ‘The Ballad of Richard Jewell’ about the security guard who found the bomb and evacuated the area, saving many lives.
Richard Jewell was initially hailed as a hero but admiration soon turned to vilification and he was cruelly pursued by the press for being the suspected bomber before being cleared by the FBI. The film will likely see Hill in the title role with DiCaprio playing a real estate attorney who helps to clear Jewell’s name, reports Deadline.
At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Hill was interviewed about the project. “I think it’s such a heartbreaking story and such an interesting story about the 24-hour news cycle: a man becoming a hero and then the world’s biggest villain within 24 hours of each other.”
Hill and DiCaprio will produce the movie alongside, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Kevin Misher reports /Film. They are currently enjoying success with Wolf of Wall Street, another film based on real events. Both are nominated for Oscars, DiCaprio for Best Actor (his fourth nomination) and Hill for Best Supporting Actor (his second).
