Zack Snyder‘s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, one of the most anticipated releases for 2015, has added another notch to its superhero belt, with Jason Momoa set to play Justice League dark horse Aquaman.
The Hawaiian-born actor has been rumoured for the role since January, and although Warner Bros. have yet to make an official announcement, sources from HitFix claim his involvement to be more or less confirmed. Not only that, but director Snyder is apparently sizing up the star to appear for two of DC’s upcoming release slate – namely, Batman vs. Superman and the far-off Justice League team-up (which, let’s face it, Dawn Of Justice may as well be anyway).
If the news proves to be true, Momoa will be joining Henry Cavill‘s Superman, Ben Affleck‘s Batman and Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman, for a presumed battle against Supes’ arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).
Momoa’s previous roles have seem him encapsulate all manner of badass brawlers, starring opposite Stallone for Bullet To The Head, succeeding Arnie for 2012’s Conan The Barbarian reboot, and, perhaps his best-known role thus far, feared warlord Khal Drogo from HBO’s Game Of Thrones.
Aquaman debuted in his comic-book form in More Fun Comics #73 (1941). Ruling the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, later incarnations of the character have portrayed a brooding, serious outsider contemplating his purpose as a fallen hero, in some ways similar to Nolan/Bale’s Batman during his Dark Knight arch. Snyder’s vision for the character will be the first time Aquaman has ever appeared on the big screen, following appearances in cartoon-form for various animated television series, including Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave And The Bold.
