The first image of Tom Hardy as both of the notorious Kray twins has been released.
Filming is currently taking place in London for the biopic of the infamous East End London gangsters of the 1950s and 1960s.
The film, titled Legend, is based on the book The Profession of Violence: The Rise and Fall of the Kray Twins by John Pearson.
In addition to Tom Hardy as both Reggie Kray and Ronnie Kray, the film also stars Australian actress Emily Browning as Reggie’s wife Frances Shea. The supporting cast also includes former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston and actor David Thewlis.
The film has been written and directed by Brian Helgeland, who wrote the screenplay for 1997s L.A. Confidential, for which he won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards, and also wrote and directed 2001s A Knight’s Tale starring Heath Ledger.
Gary Kemp and Martin Kemp, the brothers most famous for being members of Spandau Ballet, have previously played the Kray twins in the 1990 film The Krays, charting their relationship with each other and their mother.
After Tom Hardy was confirmed for the role in early 2014, he said; ‘I’ve got to work out how to play both twins, which will be fun…It’s another experiment and I’m really looking forward to it.’
Legend is being financed by Universal Studios and Working Title Film, and is being distributed by StudioCanal in the UK.
Legend is due to be released in late 2015.
